Allied Health Staff

D & M Professionals are also building a pool of allied health personnel, mainly Physiotherapists, Podiatrists and Physio-Aids to provide services to aged care homes at request. Physio aids will form the backbone of this pool.

Physio Aids provide daily passive and active exercises to residents in the nursing home which is the bedrock of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Physio aids will provide stand-by supervision when residents are having their meals and, in some instances, help with feeding under the watchful eye of the Registered Nurse.

They also provide massage therapy to residents in the nursing home and disability homes under the watchful eye of the Physiotherapist (agency physio or otherwise) as part of residents’ pain management. Physio Aids will look after residents’ fingernails 2 making sure that they are kept short and clean reducing the risk of skin tears due to accidental scratches.

Physiotherapists

The Physiotherapist will attend to residents’ mobility assessments and manual handling assessments at request. Physiotherapist will attend all documentation which includes care planning related to those assessments. Physiotherapist will attend residents, post fall or following significant deterioration of residents’ condition. This is to ensure that timeous interventions are instituted to manage residents’ mobility and manual handling care plans. Physiotherapist will perform passive and active exercises for residents and will use technical equipment to manage residents’ pain.

Podiatrists

The Podiatrist attends to residents’ foot care in a nursing home and disability home. This is against the backdrop that every resident is entitled to be seen by the Podiatrist at least every 90 days, but not every 90th day falls on the same day. Therefore, podiatrist services are required almost every dayand with careful planning can be grouped into two visits a week.
